  • This poor neglected Fwak! Blog…

Right now, Eddie and I are working late into the evenings, finalizing and preparing materials for Top Draw Animation (Philippines) who will be responsible for animating Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre. The teaser was cut this week and looks  pretty cool. In the meantime, more BG eyecandy  for ya! You may want to click on these pics for a closer-up (higher-rez) view:

Apologies for the lack of updates; Los Campeones is taking every minute of our waking life, which means other aspects of Fwak! get neglected.  On the plus side, animation is moving ahead, and we are producing our first teaser for the movie with Goodspot.  The teaser will be hitting movie theatres in Mexico next month, and we will organize a Web-friendly version as soon as we can.

  • Eddie’s new favorite TV show

I haven’t seen it. But I’ve been told that it’s got all the good stuff like action, drama, love triangles, rebellion and old Los Angeles.- Lili

Who knew Zorro would make the perfect telenovela?!?  Here’s a tip: the series is en espanol, but if you activate the captions on your TV, you get English subtitles - Eddie

    Another Project That Didn’t Happen

About a year ago, we were introuduced to popular Indian TV series – SHAKTIMAAN - and asked us to create some character designs towards development of an animated show based on this superhero. Shaaktiman’s powers come from the elements: Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, Ether; he can fly, he has superhuman strength, speed…not unlike an Indian versian of Superman. He also has a Clark Kent-ish identity when not fighting demons disguised as corporate executives. (Links – About Shaktiman and Youtube clip)

Seems like such a long time ago, but upon finding these old drawings, we still kinda like the idea because it’s culturally something different and exciting in a quirky cornball sort of way. In the proposed animated project, the 5 kids, who each represent one of the 5 elements are the main heroes who call themselves Shaktimaan 5. Shaktimaan, the big guy, is their mentor/guide who empowers them to save the day.

If you missed our show the first time round on Kids WB and Cartoon Network, you can now check out or re-visit the silliness that is ¡Mucha Lucha! - world’s first masked-wrestling cartoon. We believe that CN is showing the entire series (52 episodes) starting now from Season One, at 4pm weekdays. Here is the TV schedule.

  • Rough Animatics – sneak peek.

    It
was really tough deciding which segments from
Los Campeones to share on a public blog. We
didn’t want to give too much away of the story, or reveal cool wrestling-action
bits that might be better enjoyed within proper context… Here are some grabs from scanned storyboards/animatics.

“Sorpresa vs Abuela Extremo” from Act 3- storyboard drawings by Rafael.

“Meeting Rayo X” from Act 1 - storyboard drawings by Eddie.

    Etc.

The Lounge King has been around on the WWW for a while, we *met* him recently (online, that is) and just want to say that he is a very cool guy. We love his podcasts.

The wonders of online picture editing: I might’ve mentioned Preloadr before (use it to edit your uploaded Flickr photos) but Picnik does the same thing and more. If you can’t be bothered waiting for Photoshop to start up, use this simple online tool to edit photos on your computer, then upload directly to Flickr or chosen location.

On “Happy Feet” winning the Oscar… We haven’t seen it and don’t think we will be seeing it.

  • Los Campeones – Voice Recording Session

L: Eddie Mort directing Lux; R: From the sound booth looking out

    So
we have accomplished something quite amazingly ambitious this week. We
have just recorded over one thousand lines of dialog for an entire
feature movie in the space of two days. It was an incredibly tight
schedule because we naively assumed that we could fit everything in
and that it would be a breeze… Instead, there were times when we were
almost pulling our hair out, stressed, disorganized, wondering if we
were going to get through it all, and well, we did!

Thank you to the entire team and cast for a magnificent effort. Thanks also to Jim Cherry (Prod. Coordinator), Phofo (Music Director) and Chris (Sound Engineer) for their patience and for putting up with my snoring flatulent dog in a small airless room for so many hours.

We had a great cast too, and it was fun hearing the characters come to life. We present to you the main cast of Los Campeones de La Lucha Libre:

    Dragon Rojo Jr Armando Valdes
    Mr ProfesionalRichard Green
    Sorpresa Ruth Livier
Tsetse FlyCandi Milo (The Flea/Mucha Lucha)
Rayo X Lux Interior (The Cramps)
    Dr BlancoMatt Danner
Dragon Rojo Sr Eduardo Garcia (Look out for him in the next Coen Bros. movie!)
Rey Extremo Eric Bauza (Stimpy/Ren & Stimpy)

And thank you also to the very entertaining gang who provided additional/crowd/monster voices: Keith Rainville(writer of Los Campeones), Rafael Navarro (Storyboard artist), Linda Gamboa, Loretta P., Tilly Duran, Wes Massey, Jim Cherry, Phofo and Dave Buscemi.

From Thursday’s session: Phofo, Wes, Jim, Me and Jazzy, Lux, Eddie, Damienne

    The
next two weeks are going to be intense as Eddie and I will be putting
together the 70-minute animatic (storyboards + dialog tracks combined)
in preparation for the Animation stage of production.
