  • Our little joke

… about the number of characters in Mucha Lucha. (Like Poke-mon, get it?)

Eddie has just found these pages on my old computer. I don’t even remember doing this artwork, it was so long ago! As you can see, they are very early designs, and some of these characters never even made it into the series.

  • Chad From Chad is RAD!!!

  • Yeah, not being able to use Chad was a a BIG disappointment.  They cut Chad, dammit!!!!

  • DUDE!!! that is awesome. :D I like Psiclone. man! they just had to cut him, didn’t they. anyway that is cool.

  • I wish the pictures of the characters were bigger.

Oh yeah, when do we get the sketchbook? Another question, on the Mucha Lucha Season 1 sampler dvd there is a person with a fro on the inside cover or on the dvd itself. I was trying to figure out who the character is. I dont have the dvd right in front of me so I can’t tell you exactly where to look.

  • Minotoro_Luver, Psiclone was supposed to be one of the main characters along with Rikochet, BG and The Flea.  I guess it was a case of  ‘three is enough’.  Before WBA picked up the show, we had storyboarded a whole episode featuring Psiclone.  I just think you like characters with horns :)

This whole ‘Lucha-mon’ gag was because we couldn’t believe how many different characters were being crammed into each episode by the writers.  This was put together during the first half dozen shows.  Imagine if we listed all the characters after 52 episodes!

Patience, pcdoctor01, patience…we’re still tracking down some artwork.  Then it has to be printed.  These things take time, doncha know..?

I don’t have the cover with me either. Only characters with fros I can think of, we’re the original Cindy Slam and Kid Upandcoming (from ‘Woulda, coulda. Hasbeena’)

  • Oh yeah, on the Heart of Lucha dvd there is a feature in which they go behind the scenes with the creators and actors of Mucha Lucha.  I assume this same featurette is on the El Malefico dvd.  I loved this featurette.  I just wish I could see more behind the scenese stuff. I’d love to see how you draw the characters using a Wacom and animate them.

  • Thanks for re-commenting…as you all might have noticed Xanga has somehow lost all the old comments :(

For the ‘Heart Of  Lucha’ feature, we’d literally just come off a 14 hour flight, and been whisked into the studio to be interviewed.  Honestly, we’re not normally that spaced out :)

There are different features on the ‘Return Of Malefico’ DVD…mainly deleted scenes from the feature.

  • Great Eddie. I hope to get the dvd sometime this week. Thx! It was great to see you guys using windows in the Heart Of Lucha dvd.  I enjoyed seeing how you had all the mouths in the flash library for Rikochet.  Also, who is the character with the fro on the front of the Heart of Lucha dvd (to the left of the words Heart of Lucha).  I know you mentioned Cindy Slam but…

  • Just checked the disc, and the character is ‘Incidental 1970′s Person’ from the episode ‘Woulda, Coulda, Hasbeena’ :)

Not sure how she got on there…

  • About me and characters with horns… I don’t like, like Psiclone, but I like him.. I like, like Minotoro. ^^;;

I saw him in the pilot episode and I really liked that design. Speaking of which, Why was “Shmack Downs” blurred on the DVD?

  • Cool…ML FAQ!

‘Schmack Downs’ was blurred because Warner Bros Animation Legal deemed it too close to WWE ‘Smackdown’

They also made us change the name ‘Super Nina’ (because it translated as ‘Super Girl’)

Other changes…Potato Patata was originally ‘Patata Suicida Jr’ (‘Suicidal Potato’…okay I’ll give them that one!)

Penny Plutonium was originally ‘Amy Nitrate’

The Flea was ‘La Cucaracha’, then ‘The Roach’

    Lone Star was ‘Silver Bullet’

The female Hairy Knuckles character was ‘Titania’ in the pilot.  She underwent a change of race and became ‘Primadonna Hodges’  Hairy Knuckles Academy was originally called ‘The Real Deal’

The show was originally called ‘Lucha School’.  After the pilot, WBA Legal ruled we couldn’t us the name ‘Lucha’ in the title (we have no idea why), so the show was nameless for around 6 months.  In fact, a contest was held at Warner Bros to come up with a name.  For some reason, Legal relented, and the title ‘¡Mucha Lucha!’ was agreed on.  Just as well too…all of the other suggestions were TERRIBLE ;)
