  • Lili: I’m back from New York on the flight from hell. I was seated next to a man who coughed, sniffled and wiped his nose on his sleeve the entire flight (ick). I hope I don’t get sick.

In NYC, I had the pleasure of staying with friends in SoHo - Andrew (whom I’m encouraging to set up his own website. See some of his paintings here), Shirley, and the very adorable Ben. On Saturday night Shirley and I attended John‘s and Bee‘s lavish wedding in midtown Manhattan – which was the main purpose of this trip. I still feel very honored to be invited. John is the CEO of our blog host - xanga.com - and I would post photos from the happiest day of his life, but I think he prefers to remain visually anonymous :)

No snow this weekend, but lots of grimy slush on the streets and sidewalks…

On Sunday I strolled through the Chelsea Flea Markets. As expected, the Russian/Soviet propoganda guy was no longer there. (sorry Keith, no hat.) I did, however come across a very kitsch Bugs Bunny talking alarm clock which I couldn’t afford.

I picked up a cool, original edition of  M. Sasek‘s – “This is Texas” (awesome landscape reference) and a Plastic Man comic for Eddie – a gift for driving me to and from Long Beach airport.

Back in L.A. there are goodies in the mail! Angie Pontani has sent me a copy of the Pontani Sisters’ “Go-Go Robics II” DVD – can’t wait to see this! And from Thorsten Hasenkamm an image of his latest painting “The Lucha Libre Bar” -

Speaking of lucha-inspired artwork, what do you know, my upstairs neighbor Wes Massey, paints masked wrestlers! The painting below is of Mil Mascaras, one in a series of Frida Kahlo-esque portraits. My favorite by Wes is “The Birth of El Hijo Del Santo” which is very trippy and perhaps NSFW, so check it out HERE.

  • Apparently they’re going to be releasing a Buzz Bunny/Loonatics alarm.  It wakes you up with a vibrating sensation ;)
That painting by Thorsten is money!

  • Interesting artsy site…Mind if I subscribe to thee?

  • Oh no, not another flight from hell! Hope you stay well. You and Eddie certainly don’t need another bout of illness. I always dose myself heavily with vitamin C and zinc before getting on airplanes nowadays. Seems to work most of the time.Love Wes’ stuff! It’s too bad he doesn’t have any web presence that I can detect, otherwise I’d blog those LuchaFrida paintings in a heartbeat.

  • I would have requested to have my seat changed, and if they didn’t do that, would have gone to stand in the back with the flight attendants. They’d find a solution pretty soon if you did that. JetBlue is pretty cool though…I’ve never had a bad flight with them…last time to New York, I had three seats to myself.

  • MrBH - I wish Wes had a web presence too. His stuff is great! As he has given me permission to share these images on a public blog, if you want to blog ‘em, please go ahead! (There are other paintings in the series but not completed)
AMID - You’re lucky! Each time I’ve taken Jetblue it’s been a really full flight! (Not complaining about Jetblue - they’re very cool) Yeah, I should’ve said something …

  • Just looking at those Sasek illustrations makes me feel GOOD!

  • that’s what i love about this city. Just love to take some New York Walking Tours and enjoy this city the right way. I always stumble upon crazy events and funky people
