  • HTML/CSS/Xanga skins… This one’s for the Xangans or any web designers. I’ve been dying to tweak this site layout for some time now, but am restricted by my very basic understanding of HTML. My knowledge of CSS is practically non-existent. (one day I will learn)

Here is what I am trying to do:

    • Insert the archive calendar on one side of the page but with smaller-sized font. I have tried using <font> tags around <$Calendar$> on my xanga skin to try make the text smaller… but this isn’t working.
    • Insert “>Sites I Read, Blogroll (which you can check out on the top of our personal Links page) Again, I would like to customise fonts and all but don’t know how to do this.
    • Some xanga sites have different graphics for eprops and smileys. How does one do this?

Any advice appreciated! Please leave a comment or email me

  • I like them CSS stuff too and someone actually sent me her scripting for her blog which has 3 iframes. I dont really know how the others managed to change their graphics for eprops etc *I would love to know as well*
Maybe you can ask CelticBookwurm about how she has done her site.
    Good luck!

  • heya fwak!about the calendar, SIR and Blogrings -i’ve tried every way imaginable to alter the sizes of these things, but they’re impervious to manipulation. seems that they’re stuck at 170px (i think) wide no matter what we do. evil things.the changes to the smileys, etc. i’ve seen come from a javascript inserted into the skin code. i don’t know where to get this though….some of the sites that have the graphics altered have a image/asci code legend in the comments section with a link to the code next to it. i guess maybe try hunting around.if you figure out how to change up the calendar etc, let me know please!

  • Thanks for the comments, anjuliet and saturnalia! That’s a bummer about not being able to change the calendar size. Well thanks for letting me know you’ve tried (at least it wasn’t me). How frustrating. Maybe I’ll email the xanga folks.
I’ll keep searching around. I recall a weblog about customizing smileys on seanmeister‘s site, ages ago…but at the time the instructions did not make sense to me at all.
I’ll be sure to let you guys know when/if I find out what to do.

  • Wow! Thanks, saturnalia. Yes I remember easteregg’s site, now.
I can’t use the Look and Feel section or webstats box – this has no effect on the appearance of my site since I am using a borrowed SKIN… Guess I should start learning CSS huh?

  • oooh yeah…the look&feel will only change the comments page and your private area with a skin.the smily script will still work.otherwise…time to learn css!!
