  • Back in L.A.

We arrived yesterday morning and were struggling to stay awake all day. I don’t think the coffees worked at all. Finally crashed at about 5pm, and when I woke up it was 5am the next day! That’s 12 hours’ sleep.

So here we are. The suitcases are still unpacked and there are  boxes of mail in our office (Emmys ‘For Your Consideration’ videotapes).

This morning we saw our first hummingbird out the front of our apartment. It zipped around, like a wasp, from flower to flower. I tried to take a photo but it moved way too fast. This sight was a treat because we don’t have hummingbirds in Australia.

I have to thank Eduardo for organizing my belated-birthday group dinner at Cha Cha Cha tonight.  It was great to see everyone.(Photos are coming soon ).

So here are some of my birthday goodies … Thanks to Keith for the very cool Spiderman  head and Kaliman comics. Thanks, Jorge and Sandra for the cute dream pet!  (closest thing to a dog) I also have a signed copy of Hoodtown by Christa which I can’t wait to read, and this new gizmo from Eddie is in the post.

It’s 2.35am now… can you believe it, we’re wide awake

  • I just got back from Beijing yesterday afternoon, so I’ll second that jetlag emotion. I managed to stay up until 8pm last night (just long enough to watch Mucha Lucha). I was wide awake at 2am as well, with an inexplicable craving for boiled Hunan cow hooves and a roast-duck pancake…

  • Ahhh, you have to buy a hummingbird feeder.  My grandma has one and she has a couple of hummingbirds stopping by regularly.

  • Spring in LA! They have real birds there!!?? : }They look pretty specHappy Birthday gizmo wahine

  • Mr Bali Hai – I’ve been reading your blog – I’m very envious. Three days later, our sleep patterns are still messed up. Fell asleep at 5pm yesterday (again) and got up at midnight. So here I am, on the internet since 4.30am while Eddie’s assembling furniture…
Dramamine Boy – I’ve never heard of a hummingbird feeder. We’re in an apartment so not sure where to put it…
    Sparx – thanks!

  • Don’t feel too envious, Lili. I’m still suffering from the aftereffects of the (thankfully) mild case of food poisoning I got on my last day in Beijing. At least in Sydney you don’t have to worry about unpotable drinking water and salmonella.I was up at 1:30am this morning after falling asleep at 10:00pm. Now I have to go in to work. In less than two weeks, I fly to London and I’ll have to go through this all over again. It’s so hard being an international bon vivant!…

  • Mr. Bali Hai, that’s exactly the sleep pattern I experienced yesterday/today!
Have a safe trip to London – eddie
