  • We have just been informed of two fun music events in Los Angeles:

The first is a free Mod club on Sunday nights called GoKlub. “…your fave Northern Soul, Motown, Ska, UK Power Pop and 60′s Garage sounds in true Go Klub style!” No doubt Eddie will be winsome when he sees all the vespas parked outside. We both miss the vespa which is in storage back in Sydney.

The second event is something I’m really looking forward to. At Club Microwave on Tuesday nights, we have “… micromusic / lo-fi, IDM, Elektro-Clash, 80s, Electronica, Breaks & more”. Thanks,Tony!

    More stuff:

Styleborg – A Weblog of wearable gadgets.

Next month, our friend Andrew Chan will be exhibiting his paintings in a show in Brooklyn, New York. Details HERE. Unfortunately we can’t make it as much as we’d love to be in NYC right now. Maybe in summer…?

Speaking of travelling - if we ever visit Berlin, I want to stay in, or at least visit, this hotel. The Propeller Island City Lodge has crazy rooms with circular beds, cages, upside-down furniture, padded/collaged walls and even a room with coffin beds… (link from boingboing)

What Mr. Postman brought us today:

“Hot Rod Juvenile Delinquents and Amazons From Outer Space Have Come to Memphis to Kill Hippies! They wanted meat so they ate the Flower Children!”

Now how can anyone resist a premise like this? Thank you to Lisa for the Sore Losers DVD!!

  • Hey, sorry I haven’t been around lately.  I’ve been extremely busy but things have lightened up a bit and I’m currently back to regular updates.  I have been visiting and reading your site, however, every chance I got regardless if I left a comment or not.

    Glad to be back!

  • Re Propeller Island City Lodge
The Berliner platz place looks awesome. Great find!Very inspired/inspiring.
Would suit Nelson NZ down to the ground – it’s that kind of area. But small so this is the downside of living a bit more regionally. Cities breed this air of experiment better than smaller zones.
Nelson does a pretty good job though! Has a very high number of creatives living and working there.
And areas of New Zealand are always looking for something a bit new to keep themselves viable…so they are open to new stuff perhaps more than some others…
Makes my little Mot House seem very tame. But people love it too I guess – it has a laid back ambience, but you can always make a place gorgeous to be in. Maybe these Propeller Island rooms would be for a one or two night gig. Have novelty appeal. And the large number of them means you can go back for a new experience a lot of times before you exhaust your interest. But maybe a French farmhouse would start to look good after that : ) Or a greek place.
Went to boingboing and it reminded me of the Ant Farm – a group of subversive architects who came to Sydney in the 70s.
Talked about buildings being anything – like a space ship shape or an aeroplane etc.
There is a space ship shaped house in Nelson from the 70s. Have a pic somewhere. Up on metal spikes. Up a steep steep staircase.
    Great find Lili!

  • That’s funny…a few days ago I picked up Vince Guaraldi’s 1962 album “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” and half of the album is his jazz takes on the music from BLACK ORPHEUS. His playing style is so unmistakable…always sounds like the Charlie Brown music he did. They should rename the album SNOOPY MEETS JOBIM.- Amid

  • That would have been interesting to hear. I LOVE Jobim’s music!! (and especially the versions in Black Orpheus). Thanks for commenting, Amid! – Lili
