We have visitors!
It’s amazing how many people we know are visiting L.A. this time of year.
- This week, we look forward to meeting up with Lisa from Atlanta, who is responsible for the cool ML website on CN.com.
- Next week, we’re meeting up with Shirley and Andrew, two friends from NYC, whom we actually met in NYC three long years ago. (Shirley found us through THIS blog)
- Nathan J. – famous Australian designer - will be in L.A. at the end of the month and we get to meet in person at last, after communicating via email so far.
- We’ll also be meeting Australian Animation Producer - Tim BH with whom Fwak! is developing another TV series project.
- Last but not least, Peter, our Fwak! partner/business affairs manager will be visiting L.A. next month! Peter and Georgia are staying with us and we’re going to be showing them around … like we’re such locals now, you know.
What all this means is that we need to continue furnishing our very minimalist (in other words, ‘bare’) apartment, and figure out a list of good places to EAT and DRINK. Recommendations? Bring them on!

Suggestions? LA is such a huge area with so many good eating and drinking establishments. It’s hard to know what to recommend. Also, I have a rather large bias towards Tiki- and Space Age-themed restaurants and lounges. Bear with me.I love taking out-of-towners to the Beverly Hills Trader Vic’s, the food and drinks are top notch, but it’s pricey and the waitstaff can be snobby if you don’t have that 90210 look. As an added bonus, you can show your guests the Merv Griffin Hallway of Stars in the Beverly Hilton next door and see pictures of Merv smooching the behinds of various celebrities. You’ll probably see some live celebs with lip prints on their heinies in the main dining room. On my last visit, I saw Bruce Vilanch and Lara Flynn-Boyle, they just don’t get any bigger (or more anorexic)…The Bahooka Restaurant has a wonderfully tacky tiki atmosphere with lots of aquariums and nautical memorabilia, and if that’s not enough to convince you, just look at the food. Please note that they have been awarded a grade ‘A’ in the Los Angeles County Restaurant Health Inspections. w00t!The Encounter Restaurant at LAX has great ambience, music, and fantastic cocktails along with an incomparable view of the airport. Finally, Tiki Ti on Hollywood Blvd or The Formosa Cafe are good places to drink and schmooze with Hollywood wannabes.
Re Tim BH: It’s great watching you guys trekking this new ground. All the very best with your new project.
Mr Bali Hai - Tiki Ti is definitely on the list (it’s in our neighbourhood!) but I didn’t know about Bahooka. It looks great. We’re also doing a WB Lot Tour, Disneyland, the usual touristy stuff of course.
Lorraine – thanks!
