Month: November 2003

  • It’s 11pm… We’re stitting at LAX waiting, waiting, waiting. Our flight has been delayed a minimum of TWO hours because mechanical problems were detected in the fanbelts.  We had all boarded and were comfortably seated – then the announcement came that everyone had to deplane.

I have 9 minutes remaining on this machine… Going to get some McDonalds and keep waiting.

  • Off to Sydney

We will be leaving L.A. for Sydney tomorrow night (and arriving on Thursday! – we have a big wedding to go to on the weekend.) We’ll be returning to WBA the week of November 16th. So, no blogging for a couple of days unless something so wonderfully exciting happens between now and tomorrow, that we can’t help ourselves.

  • More Halloween Wrestling!
    The Revolution Pro/AWS Halloween Show

    Eddie’s review:

We love RevPro. (see archives below for previous reviews) Every fortnight these wrestlers knock themselves out before about 50 to 100 people, and put on one of the most skillful and acrobatic shows out there.  They’re supported by the most dedicated group of kids who promote, film the matches, and set up the ring.

After a tip-off from From Parts Unknown‘s venerable publisher, Keith J. Rainville that RevPro were doing a freebie Halloween show at Frank and Sons Collectibles, we headed out to the City Of Industry (why do we still think of Blade Runner whenever that place is mentioned?) with Keith to check out the action.

What we witnessed were all the RevPro guys wrestling OUT of character, and IN other characters, and basically taking the opportunity to have some fun and horse around.  I mean, take a look at some of these match ups; El Lobo Hombre (a wolf man) and La Momia Vs The Barbershop Duo

Taliban (complete with ‘OS-AMA’ chant and box cutter) Vs Extreme Loco, and what was probably the STUPIDEST match ever witnessed – Danny Dreamer (yes, he kept falling asleep in the ring) Vs Mr. Mom (Yes, the character from the Michael Keaton Movie.  Yes, he brought his kid to the ring with him).  Throw in a blind referee, Justin Timbersnake and Po-Po (a dancin’, candy-throwin’ panda), and you have 90 minutes of Halloween fun and madness!

To top it off, there was a wrestling mime!  Not our very own French Twist, but Koko the Mime, who lassoed his opponent with an imaginary lariat!

Now come on – tell me they didn’t get that from ¡Mucha Lucha!

Lili: This is Series 2 of the Amusement Kubrick Character series, bought at Frank & Sons for $55 – ouch. But it includes a Tiger Mask kubrick! Now I am compelled to find the first series…

… a different version of Tiger Mask and
I love the red one (Red Death Mask) on the right!

Only TWO more days before we fly back to Sydney (for a short visit). Tomorrow’s mission: Shop for clothes to wear to a wedding; check out a swapmeet on Santa Monica Blvd/Vermont; Visit Olvera Street (for Dia de Los Muertos  events); Go see Eyes Without a Face at the Nu-Art…

~ HAPPY DAY OF THE DEAD! ~
