  • Here we are on a Saturday night at the studio…

The other day, we found out that Brett J. (whom we hanged out with in Hong Kong last year) is back in Sydney and working here indefinitely. We talked about being away and what its’ like to be back … and all came to the conclusion that the one thing that really sux about Australia is that NOTHING STAYS OPEN LATE.

SHOPS ARE CLOSED AFTER 6PM. There’s nowhere to eat after 9pm (not counting McDonalds) This is annoying especially when you work late like we do, and are too frazzled to cook. There’s only ONE late night eatery near where we live – Food Game, and they close at midnight.

So I did a quick search on the internet and found this link: Eat Streets at Night. This is what we’ve got/Memo to self:

The following restaurants are open after midnight on some days.

Ali Baba Lebanese Cuisine, Baia San Marco, Bar CQ, Blackbird Café, Blue Fish Seafood Restaurant, Café Fiorianis, City Extra, City Marina Café, Dendy Bar & Bistro, Industrie, G’Day Café, Grand Taverna, Cruise Restaurant, I’m Angus Steakhouse, Misto Restaurant Café, Nicks Bar & Grill, Sky Phoenix, Stresa Ristorante e Bar, , Wildfire, Vieri, Pancakes at the Rocks, Sebel Pier One Sydney, Senario Café, Slip Inn, Superbowl on Goulburn Chinese Restaurant, The Basement, Wine Banc, Raquels Spanish Restaurant, Tumnak Thai Restaurant, Saigon Bay, La Bar Restaurant, Battuta , Dannys La Bussola, BBQ King, QVB Jet, Iguana Bar, Chicane Restaurant & Lounge Bar

Note they only say SOME days. Slack!

  • Mucha Lucha Books

Good news just received from WB:

The Harper Collins Mucha Lucha books have been picked up by Wal*Mart, Toys R Us, and Kmart . Albertsons (grocery chain) took 220 displays and may increase that number an additional 900 displays.

    ML Flash Crews

We often get asked WHO does the Flash animation on ML.
The stories, storyboards, design and voices are done at the WB Animation studio in Sherman Oaks. I posted this photo of the in-house crew a while back.

Storyboards, animatics, designs are shipped overseas to Bardel (Canada), Koko and Sunwoo (Korea).

Below are pics of the Korean crews. These are the guys responsible for Flash-animating the series:

Joel (Producer), Pringle and the SunWoo ML team

Unfortunately we don’t know any of their names but it’s always nice to at least see who you’re working with.

If there’s not much blogging these next few days it would be because we’re totally CRAZY BUSY. We’re currently juggling ML work (for various departments of WB) and Cosmic Baby; hoping to get as much done as possible before this long weekend. Saturday morning at the break of dawn, we’ll be off to Melbourne to visit the Morts. There’s just not enough time! … we’ll be working this weekend.

  • There is a Mysteries of the World Theme Park in Switzerland! Attractions include: The Orient (The “orient”?? They could’ve just called this one “Cheops Pyramid” no?), Maya, Megastones (Stonehenge), Vimana (ancient India), Nazca …   Read article

  • Internet fads…

From Daypop  (news) comes this article – Blogs: The Next Big Thing . I find it interesting that this process is compared to the dot.com revolution. Not sure I see the connection unless someone figures out how to make money from this. Apparently you can invest VIRTUAL MONEY in blogs, at Blogshares.com. And no listing for Xanga in the Top 100 …

And then I came across thisWhat’s a Wiki? If I understand correctly, a Wiki is a web database that is a totally changeable & collaborative project. Anyone can contribute and edit stuff on a wiki. There are rules on how to write for a wiki (If you write crap or get personal, someone will be bound to delete/edit your stuff). The idea is to be as neutral as possible.

“Blogs and wikis are polar opposites in many ways, though they’re seen as similar” he says. “A blog tends to reflect the biases and opinions of an author, while a wiki is more like an open cocktail party. In a wiki you try to speak without a strong voice, seeking consensus to create something permanent, while on a blog you’re developing your own voice and it’s very much about your voice.”

OK. Not as interesting as keeping a weblog, but I like the concept of online collaboration.

More Kubricks! Already there are kubricks for X2 and Matrix Reloaded.

    *** and Sesame Street!

    from www.figuro.com

I wonder when we’ll see masked luchador kubricks. It’s about time, right?

Went to Oli’s last night and watched Insomnia (great movie!). Oli is doing the sound effects and mix for Super Mahi Tiki. The addition of “ocean” atmospheric sounds (waves, boats, birds…) is really doing wonders for the visuals.

We finally saw Lilo and Stitch on Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself liking it more than I would’ve expected to. I like the design style: the rounded chubby look. I liked the Hawaiian setting and characters. The story was typically Disney, but not as schmultzy and predictable as others.

Just been to Dr What’s in Bondi Junction, our favorite video store. What we’re watching this week: Casino, Touch of Evil, Mad Max 2, Amelie, In The Mood For Love, Best In Show, Archies

Song of the day  (… it’s stuck in our heads)
