Late at night, when there’s nothing worth watching on TV (we don’t get Foxtel in our apartment building), and while I‘m trying to piece together the new website, Eddie works on his personal animated project. We weren’t going to unveil this until the rest of the new site was ready but, oh well… SANTITO – A Tribute to Mexican Lucha Cinema of the 60′s (and to El Santo) This page will be updated as the story continues.Update: Santito has been mentioned on the FPU messageboard.

ON BLOGGING…
I have started reading Biz Stone’s book on Blogging. (read review). This is inspiring; with lots of helpful HTML tips and a good overview of the different major weblog providers.
In fact I am almost sold on using Blogger except that Xanga Premium is so much more user-friendly. No need for inserting HTML tags; everything is automated; and the x-tools interface has a fun layout. Aesthetics are important!
There are a few issues I have with Xanga though:
- Commenting. Readers can’t leave comments unless they have registered themselves with the xanga community. For this reason, I have disabled the ‘add comments’ to these entries.
- Downloadable weblog archives. The book lists this as a feature – but our weblog archives page has been empty every since we registered. How does one download archives?
- Date/Time Zone? The dates and times here are all US times. (no, it’s not really 2am right now) Blogger at least lets you pick your timezone. The Xanga team promises they will be fixing this. Hopefully soon!
- E-mail it - this feature doesn’t work properly. You should be able to e-mail a specific blog entry (even if previously dated) not just the first page. Bug reported.
That said, if any readers would like to leave feedback and comments, please do! E-mail us here

ON THE WEB
The nominees for the 2003 Bloggies are up – no doubt voted by die-hard webloggers with lots of time on their hands. We don’t really know these ones, but…
Some regularly-updated sites and interesting blogs we do visit daily, are:
- Wrestling Observer - Eddie
- Pro-wrestling Torch - Eddie
- Animation Magazine - we get daily news e-mailed to us
- Animation Nation boards - the US animation scene – which can get a bit ranty
- Cartoon Research - animation news
- Lucha World boards - Eddie
- Geisha Asobi Blog - silly and fun links - Lili
- Boing Boing - varied news and links
- Sharpeworld - varied news and links incl. music
- linkfilter – varied news and links - Lili
- The Presurfer - more news and links - Lili
- Chaos Generation - a recently-discovered Sydney-based blog - Lili
There are many others but most don’t get updated daily and are a bit hit or miss. Some recently discovered travel-blogs I wish I had more time to read:
- Belly Button - This is what the owner, Wayan, has to say about Sydney:
A quasi-socialist/capitalist economy, with high taxes on the rich and high benefits for the poor, Australia is not the pure capitalism I am used to. It’s not capitalism with a few rules of America, or capitalism without rules of Russia, or capitalism only in cities of China. Australia has taken its own path to industrialization, a middle path between capitalism a socialism, which has effected the entire country.
I’ve yet to see the stressed out consumer culture so obvious in America. When the going gets tough in Oz, they head to the beach. Everyone is relaxed because they would be taxed if they tried to hard and given a pillow if they didn’t try hard enough. So they float along, making enough to stay happy in this warm worker’s paradise.
- Rhymers Travel Diary. Hmmm. Another person who is saying the same thing about Sydney…
One thing that is missing though is any sense of freneticism. I had expected something of the kind of rush you get in London or New York. Or even Paris or San Francisco. But there’s not a bit of it: Sydney is positively sleepy and does have a funny end of the earth feeling to it. As Andrew says, it may be the (de facto) capital, but it’s still the capital of nowhere.
I am looking forward to reading the South American and Easter Island entries…This guy, like Wayan, has been everywhere…and it’s hard not to disagree with these descriptions of Sydney as a laid-back sort of nowheresville in the bigger picture. But we wouldn’t know - WE are busy all the time… (and we always have the travel bug)
You will notice the little ‘Aussie blogs’ link on the top left of this page - this fwak! blog is now part of the Australian weblogs ring. Which means each time this page is updated, the Aussie Blogs site will keep track. Click on the link and you will be directed to other local blogs… let us know if there are any worth checking out!

Anyone can e-mail El Santo at the …Official El Santo website (in Spanish), download wallpapers, visit the photo gallery, read the online comic. Just click on the links (little blue buttons) at the top of the page. The ones on the bottom don’t work, we’ve checked. The above poster is from his upcoming film Infraterrestre.
Or write to Blue Demon at his official Blue Demon website (also in Spanish) – which is where I found this very cool image.
CURRENTLY WATCHING…
Eddie recently received this lucha video from Wrestleholics.com (best place to order taped matches). It features the return of one of the best – Ultimo Dragon; and a hilarious spot where Los Guapos are taught how to dance for their ring entrance.
There is also a brilliant tag team match between some Japanese female luchadoras. One wears a patchwork-tasselly-clown-type outfit and wrestles under the name of Commando Borshoi… I think that was Commando Borshoi… need to brush up on my Spanish. …And that damn midget-in-a-blue-ape-costume was also around for a couple of bouts!
(Link: Japanese masked women wrestlers - a mini-gallery). Japanese masked wrestlers are great to watch – they’re not as comical and camp as the Mexicans, but are often more technically-accomplished and they get so worked-up in the ring!
On a side note, we have also been taping Man From UNCLE telemovies from TCM. Lots of cheesy fun. The one this week “The Karate Killers” was totally unconvincing – a scientist discovers how to change sea-water to gold, (yes! sea-water!) and everyone wants the formula, of course.
