LUCHA LIBRE NEWSFLASH: ULTIMO DRAGON is back!

No, the picture above isn’t Ultimo Dragon, but Genuine Fighting Kenzo (and manager), Fwak’s own creation and animated tribute to Ultimo Dragon.

Some history for the non lucha fans: Ultimo Dragon is a Japanese luchador and one of the best. He trained and rose to fame in Mexico and the USA’s WCW.

FPU (From Parts Unknown Magazine) has long touted Ultimo as being quietly the most prolific masked wrestler of the decade – from inventing the Asai Moonsault to holding nine belts at once. Dragon achieved lasting star status in all three major world wrestling markets, never gave in to WCW’s lame racist crap, and put on a great show everytime he entered the ring – lookign good doing it!” - quoted from From Parts Unknown Cito (1999)

After an arm injury and botched operation by WCW in 1998, Ultimo Dragon was forced into retirement. In the past few years, he has opened a school in Mexico ‘The Ultimo Dragon Gym’  to train young wrestlers. And now he is back in action! • Mainstream ADULT ANIMATION

    - here is an article about which shows are being picked up by which cable broadcasters…

“So it seems that if adult animation is fading from the traditional networks, cable is picking up the banner for a younger audience who only knows an age with The Simpsons and is looking for something a bit edgier. With more and more animation saturating the mainstream, by the time Gen-Xers are collecting social security the Disney-fied stigma on animation may be a distant memory” quoted from AWN

The question remains – why is it so hard to successfully pitch adult animated cartoons? Do our shows necessarily have to appeal to some pre-conceived idea of what the Gen-X demographic wants to see?

  • NOW SHOWING:

The Man With The Smallest Penis In Existence and the Electron Microscope Technician Who Loved Him, a new Flash cartoon from the talented, bent minds of Patrick O’brien of Transfatty.com  and Augenblick Studios (For adult audiences, obviously)

We met Aaron Augenblick, Frank Suarez and Ben in Brooklyn, New York several years ago – when they were finishing off Ramblin’ Man and we had just completed our first few locomotion.com webisodes. (We had no idea back then we would form FWAK! and sell a show to WB). Meeting the Augenblick Studios crew was an inspiration. In those early days of internet animation, these guys were making slick, stylish and smooth Flash animation …and their work is getting better and better. It’s always nice to know that independent animation studios like these are still around and thriving.
